Changes: What’s Important Now?

Every picture represents a scene through a specific lens at a moment in time.
… It too will change …
… as will the scene …
… as will the lens …

To proclaim that we are living in an extremely unusual time is not only stating the obvious, it is a distinct understatement.
Polarities and paradoxes abound, yet they always do, even when we have apparently clear frameworks that provide us with orientation. Currently, these frameworks have dissipated.

Our experiences shape us. No two people, experiencing the same situation at the same time, will experience it in precisely the same way. Each of us is experiencing the affects of covid19 differently; each one of us in our own way.

Conversations with friends and colleagues, as well as observations lead me to believe that for most, priorities are changing. These conversations also lead me to believe that most, not all, are being seriously challenged, not necessarily by covid19, but by the lockdowns we are living under as a consequence. Some people openly admit the challenges; others hide behind masks. We each make choices.

So, here’s an invitation to consider the following Questions …

  • What is important for you now?
  • What has become important for you, that you perhaps hadn’t consciously considered prior to the covid19 crisis?
  • Which, if any, decisions have you made concerning your life once this crisis is over?

A note of caution for those who feel inclined to take up this challenge …
… Language …
… words are merely words, all too often thrown out with relatively little thought. In addition, all descriptive words, nouns, verbs and adjectives alike, mean different things to different people. This applies especially to words often associated with what we may refer to as „values“. Context may of course also alter the meaning of a word.

Whether I am speaking, listening or reading, it is the emotion behind the words that give them meaning.
So, should you decide to respond, you could also ask yourself why each of these concepts/ideas – they are not „things“ – are so significant for you.

Of course, we have no idea whatsoever, when the current crisis will end, nor how the world will look at that time. Your responses then may well be different.

Now … we are here …

I wish you enriching reflections …
