I have a problem with the Concept of Authenticity
I have a problem with the concept of authenticity. It’s not that I don’t like authentic people … I do indeed like very many of them, but by no means all.
No. The problem I have is with the notion that authentic is always positive. You see, in my experience, this is not necessarily the case.
Every day, when I open my social media accounts, I’m battered with the oh-so-wonderful-oh-so-smooth thoughts, reflections and achievements of those I see there.
Now, many of these people I know personally, some indeed, I know very well and I know absolutely that what they are saying is authentic … and has integrity.
And I love reading about their work and learn a great deal in the process of doing so.
Many others I know personally too: we have had real conversations, we may even have worked together, we may have had business dealings with one another, and I know very well, absolutely that what they are saying is authentic … and has no integrity whatsoever.
These people are authentic in their lack of integrity.
And I’m so tired of reading this kind of crap. I am even more tired of seeing how others fail to see through them. They are influential …and harmful while authentically inauthentically creating the impression that they do good.
This is the problem I have with the concept of authenticity.
